There is certainly a warm welcome for all visitors to Tony's Tavern and Tony himself is always there to ensure that everyone enjoy his warm hospitality - for which Cyprus is well known - and the great tasty of traditional Cypriot dishes all carefully homemade.

At this time of year there is lovely al fresco dining outside under the lemon trees where the wooden tables and woven-seated chairs are as traditional as the dishes!

The service is discreet and very efficient and the menu offers just too many good dishes including my favourite starter - prawn saganaki with tasty prawns combined with tomatoes and Fetta (the Cypriot version of this popular cheese!).

Main dishes include Moussaka and Kleftiko - the wonderful lamb casserole with meat that just 'melts in the mouth'. There are a variety of meat dishes cooked over charcoal and a definitely 'must' is the Cyprus roast potatoes - quite different in both taste and texture to their British cousins! The perfect way to sample all the various dishes is to order either a meat or fish Mezé. Mezé is short for Mezedhes and means 'little bites' and comprises of small portions of all the different dishes so that guests can enjoy each in turn...but be warned, this is a meal that lasts the whole evening and it is important to just relax and eat at a leisurely pace and the second warning is that Tony is known for his generous portions!

There is plenty to enjoy on the drinks front with cocktails including the island's famous 'brandy sour' and some excellent wines including the tavern's house wine which is carefully chosen by Tony for his guests.

Whenever  you choose to dine at Tony's, you will be delighted with the delicious food and its not surprising to see Tony welcome some guests who visit him each time they holiday in Cyprus!
